LDAP configuration notes:

The Cymphonix Network Composer is able to report and block by Active Directory username and computer name.  To make this work, three things need to be set up on the appliance.

First, the appliance needs to know how to query Active Directory.  This is done on the Admin -> Configuration -> LDAP page using the settings listed above.

Second, a “Directory Agent” needs to be installed on the Active Directory Domain Controller server.  You can obtain the directory agent directly from the appliance on the Admin -> Downloads -> Directory/LDAP Software page.  Once that’s done, go to the Manage -> Directory Agent page and create a new Directory Agent specifying what server you installed the agent.  The agent works over TCP port 3462 by default.

The third and last piece, is to run the Cymphonix Directory Agent Client Utility (cymdir.exe) on each workstation on the network.  This agent needs to execute every time the user logs in and stays resident in memory so it’s best to put it in the login script; either through a batch file or group policy login script.  This utility tells the Cymphonix Composer when the user logs in and out of the network.  This executes in the login script using this command:

start \\STF-PGH-SBS-1\netlogon\cymdir.exe /ad /silent 10.1.11.2

7/7/2011 – PSM – I noted that the IP address mentioned below was 10.1.11.9, but the Cymphonix’s IP was 10.1.11.2, and this was correct in the logon script.
